"Dance"

Why don't people dance at gatherings anymore? Why don't they like to dress up? Why do people allow themselves to function in shades of beige? Where did joie de vivre go?

Since we don't have the opportunity to go out couple style very often, my husband and I dressed up in our very best for what was expected to be an elegant night. He wore a black suit and a silver tie. I wore a black cocktail dress with a mambo neckline (I was ready to dance!) and my most sparkling beaded sandals. When we arrived, the banquet room was lively with cocktail hour and chatting. But to my disappointment, I saw many people dressed more like they were going to an office meeting. Some women wore slacks and a short sleeve blouse and I saw a few men, with no jacket. Now this was a fundraiser put on in our community that is fairly upwardly mobile. I cannot blame ignorance or demographics. I view dressing up as part of the "package." If you dress festively, you are already half way to the party.   read more...
